Hostel Raid, Student Protest Prompt Bauchi Polytechnic Shutdown

The Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi has indefinitely suspended all academic activities following a violent hostel raid and a subsequent student protest.

The Incident and Student Protest

The crisis began with a late-night raid on the male hostel by unidentified assailants. During the attack, students' valuables were stolen and at least two students were injured.

In response, a protest was organized by students at the polytechnic's main gate to demand action and better security. However, according to Registrar Kasimu Salihu, the demonstration was infiltrated by "hoodlums" who were not students of the institution, and the protest quickly turned chaotic and violent.

Management's Response

In light of the escalating tension, the school's management made the decision to shut down the polytechnic as a precautionary measure. All students were instructed to vacate the premises within two hours. The closure is indefinite, and security agencies have been notified and are now investigating the attack and the protest's escalation.
