Fed Poly Bauchi Notice of Closure of Academic Activities With Immediate Effect

The Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi has indefinitely suspended all academic activities following a violent hostel raid and a subsequent student protest that escalated into a chaotic scene. The decision was made to ensure the safety of students and staff.

The Initial Incident and Student Reaction

The crisis began when a group of unidentified assailants invaded the male students' hostel late at night. During the raid, the attackers stole valuables and left at least two students injured. This attack prompted widespread panic and outrage among the student body.

Early the following morning, aggrieved students gathered at the main gate of the polytechnic to protest. Their demonstration was initially peaceful, as they sought a swift response and better security from the school authorities.

Escalation of the Protest

According to the Registrar, Alh. Kasimu Salihu, the polytechnic's management team, including all principal officers, responded immediately to address the protesting students. However, the situation quickly deteriorated. The protest was reportedly infiltrated by "hoodlums who have no affiliation with the institution" and whose actions "posed a serious threat to lives and property."

Official Management Action

Faced with the rising tensions and the potential for further violence, the management of the polytechnic issued an official notice ordering the immediate closure of all academic activities. As a result, all students were given two hours to vacate the polytechnic campus, and the school will remain closed until further notice. Security agencies are now investigating both the initial hostel raid and the instigators of violence during the protest.
