6 Things to Do After Checking your UTME Result [UPDATED]

After 2025 JAMB UTME, What's Next? Here's What Every Candidate Should Do

Finally, UTME 2026 is over. So what’s next?

After writing UTME, many students tend to relax after checking their results and forget the next important steps after Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) UTME.

If you haven’t checked your result yet, send UTMERESULT to 55019 using the phone number you used for registration.

In this article, I will share with you six things you must do after checking your JAMB Result, but first, let me congratulate you on the success of your exam, and if you didn’t do well, don’t worry; you can always improve by trying again.

Let us now move on to the main reason for writing this article, Now, here are the six (6) important things you must do next:

1. CHECK IF YOU MEET THE CUT-OFF MARK

After reviewing your results, the first thing you should do is ascertain whether or not you meet the cut off mark.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) announced a new cut off mark of 150 and above for all federal, state, and private universities, as well as 100 for polytechnics and 120 for colleges of education in Nigeria as for 2025/2026 admission.

Note: The Cut Off Marks here are for the 2025/2026 Session, and are subject to change for the 2026/2027 Session, The Article will be updated once this year's own are released

The above cut off marks are only JAMB cut off marks because each institution has its cut-off mark, for example, some federal universities have a cut-off of 200 or higher. Check to see if your score qualifies you for the school you selected; if not, you can apply for a change of institution.

2. CHECK COURSE & SCHOOL COMPETITIVENESS

Now that you know your cut-off mark, it is important to understand the competitiveness of your course and institution.

This will help you plan for your post-UTME and determine your chances of admission because some institutions and courses are highly competitive.

Understanding this helps you:
▪ Know your admission chances
▪ Prepare strategically for Post-UTME

3. CONFIRM YOUR SUBJECT COMBINATION

I know you must have done this before taking JAMB, but it is important to confirm again because your O-Level combination, in addition to your JAMB combination, must meet the admission requirements of your institution.

Double-check that your:

▪ UTME subject combination
▪ O’Level subjects

match your chosen course requirements.

Wrong combinations can disqualify you, even with a high score.

4. UPLOAD YOUR O’LEVEL RESULT

This step applies to students who used awaiting results option. After seeing your JAMB Results and confirming that your o level result is out, go to the nearest Jamb office to upload your results to those who must have uploaded their results during registration.

It is very important to confirm again because errors and network issues from the JAMB server can occur at any time. Always check from time to time and if you notice any issues, go to the nearest JAMB CBT Centre to complain.

This is crucial, especially if you used Awaiting Result (AR).

▪ Visit a JAMB CBT centre or office
▪ Upload your WAEC/NECO/NABTEB result

Also:

▪ Reconfirm your upload status regularly
▪ Fix any errors immediately to avoid issues during admission

5. START PREPARING FOR POST-UTME / SCREENING

After seeing your results and confirming your cut-off, it is best to start preparing for Post-UTME because the earlier you prepare, the more you will cover, get past questions, and study effectively.

For those whose institutions do not use post-UTME screening, begin preparing for your screening by ensuring you have all the required documents.

Don’t wait.

▪ Get past questions
▪ Study early and consistently
▪ Know your school’s screening format

For schools without Post-UTME:
▪ Prepare your documents for screening

🕮 Buy Past Question

Early preparation gives you a major advantage.

6. GET GUIDANCE: EDUCATIONAL CONSULTANT / ADMISSION PROGRAM

Many students miss admission not because of low scores, but due to wrong decisions and lack of proper guidance.

This is where a Personal Educational Consultant or Admission Consultation Program becomes important.
