UNIMAID Admission Officer Explains Key Admission Requirements and Challenges

The University of Maiduguri admission office has revealed important guidelines for prospective students seeking admission into the institution, highlighting requirements, cut-off marks, and the likely challenges students may encounter in the process of seeking admission into the University.

The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) has provided important insights into its admission process, outlining general requirements, cut-off marks, and common challenges faced by applicants.

This was disclosed by the Deputy Registrar (Admissions), Dr. Ebenezer A. Felix, during an interview with the Unimaid Bulletin held at the Students Affairs Division of the university.

General Admission Requirements

According to Dr. Felix, candidates seeking admission into the University of Maiduguri must meet the following basic requirements:

▪ A minimum of five O’ Level credits in relevant subjects
▪ A UTME score of at least 150

He explained that admission requirements are faculty-dependent, as some programmes are more competitive than others.

Cut-Off Marks for Competitive Courses

Dr. Felix noted that candidates applying to highly competitive programmes are expected to score higher than the general minimum requirement.

▪ Courses in the College of Medical Sciences
Law and related programmes

These programmes typically require UTME scores of 200 and above due to high demand.

Admission Quota System Explained

The University of Maiduguri operates a quota-based admission system designed to ensure fairness and inclusivity. Admissions are considered under the following categories:

▪ Merit
▪ Catchment area
▪ Educationally Less-Developed States (ELDS)

This system ensures balanced representation while maintaining academic standards.

Digital Admission Process

The Deputy Registrar revealed that UNIMAID’s admission process is now fully digitalized.

According to him, the digital system has:

▪ Improved efficiency
▪ Reduced corruption
▪ Simplified registration and fee payment processes

This transition has made the admission process more transparent and student-friendly.

Major Challenges Identified

Dr. Felix identified poor compliance by candidates as one of the major challenges faced by the Admissions Office.

Common issues include:

▪ Failure to upload O’ Level results
▪ Applying for courses that do not align with candidates’ qualifications

Such mistakes often result in candidates losing their admission opportunities.

Advice to Prospective Candidates

Prospective students were advised to take the admission process seriously and ensure accuracy at every stage.

Candidates should:

▪ Upload all required documents correctly
▪ Ensure subject combinations match chosen courses
▪ Confirm examination scores before submission
▪ Regularly check the university website and admissions portal for updates

Staying informed, according to Dr. Felix, is crucial to avoiding missed opportunities.
