UNILAG Responds to Post‑UTME Malpractice Claims

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has dismissed social media claims of technical faults during its 2025/2026 Post-UTME screening exercise, stating that all malpractice notices were based on verified rule violations detected through strict monitoring systems.

According to Adejoke R. Alaga-Ibraheem, Head of UNILAG’s Communication Unit, the notices of examination malpractice given to certain applicants were due to clearly defined breaches of rules — not system errors.

The university expressed concern over rumours and allegations shared via emails and social platforms following the screening held between September 1 and 4, 2025.

▪ Malpractice notices were not the result of any technical glitch but stemmed from genuine violations of established procedures.
▪ Security and integrity protocols, including video recording of the exercise, were used to monitor candidates.
▪ All flagged cases were detected through these checks.

On transparency, UNILAG clarified that raw video footage of incidents would not be released (to protect data privacy), though anonymised stills may be shared to illustrate infractions.

The institution also disclosed that 20,464 candidates took part in the fully online screening for admission into undergraduate programmes.

Prospective students and their families have been urged to ignore unofficial sources and rely only on information issued through UNILAG’s official channels.

Some candidates had claimed on social media that they were unfairly penalised due to technical issues, but the university maintained that the flagged cases were genuine. Similar complaints also surfaced among applicants for Obafemi Awolowo University’s Post-UTME screening during the same period.
