Chinedu Okeke: JAMB Responds After Discovering 2025 UTME Top Scorer Is a UNN 4th‑Year Medical Student

JAMB is investigating Chinedu Okeke, the 2025 UTME top-scorer, for alleged identity manipulation, as he's a currently enrolled 400-level medical student at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).

JAMB's Response to Chinedu Okeke Controversy

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has addressed the controversy surrounding Chinedu Okeke, who achieved the highest score of 375 out of 400 in the 2025 UTME. The core of the issue is that Okeke is currently a fourth-year medical student at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).

Key Discrepancies and Allegations

▪️ Identity Manipulation: JAMB alleges that Chinedu Okeke misrepresented his state of origin and academic status to retake the exam, potentially gaining unfair admission advantages.

▪️ State of Origin: While some social media claims indicated Okeke was from Anambra State, official JAMB records show he is from Amuwo-Odofin LGA in Lagos State.

▪️ Multiple Registrations: JAMB revealed Okeke registered twice:

▪️ In 2021 for Medicine, using Lagos credentials, leading to his admission at UNN.

▪️ Again in 2025 for Mechanical Engineering, while still enrolled in UNN's medical program.

The Board described this as "inconsistent and questionable."

▪️ Data Integrity: JAMB emphasized that candidate details are sourced directly from the NIN system and are not manipulated by the Board. They refuted claims of errors in NIMC data from 2021 as "unequivocally false."

▪️ Record Alteration: Investigations suggest Okeke altered his records before the 2025 UTME, an assertion supported even by some of his own supporters.

▪️ Ethical Concerns: Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communications Advisor, stated that JAMB refuses to allow candidates aspiring to leadership roles to act in ways that are "unbecoming," stressing the importance of ethical standards for future leaders.

JAMB's Stance and Next Steps

▪️ Reliance on Verified Data: JAMB's operations are strictly based on verified data, not public sentiment.

▪️ Collaboration: JAMB is working with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to safeguard the integrity of the exam process and combat misinformation.

▪️ UNN's Role: JAMB affirmed its recognition of Okeke as a genuine UNN student until contradicted by official university documents. Dr. Benjamin noted that only if UNN confirms discrepancies would they involve the Medical and Dental Council in potential delisting.

▪️ Transparency and Fairness: JAMB reaffirmed its dedication to transparency, fairness, and nurturing ethical standards.

▪️ Result Validity: Okeke’s results remain valid unless contradicted through formal processes and official clarification from UNN or regulatory bodies.
