OAUSTECH Secures NUC Approval for New Academic Programmes

The Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, Ondo State, has received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to introduce three new undergraduate programmes and higher degree programmes in two departments.

According to an official letter dated 23rd October, 2025, signed by the NUC Acting Director of Academic Planning, Alhaji Abubakar M. Girei, on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Professor Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, the newly approved programmes are aimed at strengthening academic growth and expanding study opportunities for students at OAUSTECH.

NEWLY APPROVED PROGRAMMES

Undergraduate Programmes:
▪ B.Sc. Cyber Security
▪ B.Sc. Marine Science
▪ B.Sc. Meteorology

Postgraduate Programmes:
▪ Postgraduate Diploma (PGD), M.Eng, and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering
▪ Postgraduate Diploma (PGD), M.Eng, and Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering

These programmes reflect OAUSTECH’s continuous effort to provide students with advanced knowledge, practical skills, and research exposure in critical areas of science and engineering.

MANAGEMENT’S REACTION

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Temi Ologunorisa, described the approval as a major milestone in the university’s academic expansion, emphasizing that the new programmes would equip students with practical skills and enhance their competitiveness both locally and internationally.

He expressed profound appreciation to the NUC for the confidence reposed in the university and urged both staff and students to work toward the successful implementation of the new programmes.

Similarly, the Director of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance, Dr. Cecilia Oluwamodupe, commended the leadership of OAUSTECH and the Governing Council, chaired by Professor Akinbo Adesomoju, for their role in securing the approval. She noted that this development will further enhance the institution’s visibility and attract more students and partnerships.

BENEFITS OF THE NEW PROGRAMMES

The Marine Science programme, in particular, is expected to create career opportunities beneficial to the coastal communities around Okitipupa and neighboring areas. Students will gain hands-on fieldwork experience, research opportunities, and exposure to emerging industry prospects.

OAUSTECH will begin admitting students into the approved undergraduate programmes once they are officially listed on the JAMB Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).

CLOSING NOTE

With these additions, OAUSTECH continues to demonstrate its commitment to academic excellence, research innovation, and national development. The university remains focused on producing graduates who possess the knowledge, creativity, and competence to make meaningful contributions to society.
