Nigerian Institute of Journalism Admission Form 2025/2026 [UPDATED]



The Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) has announced that admission forms for the 2025/2026 academic session are now on sale for various programmes, including National Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND), Postgraduate Diploma (PGD), and Proficiency Certificates.

Available Programmes & Requirements

National Diploma (ND)

▪ Programme: Mass Communication (Full-Time & Part-Time)

▪ Requirements: Five credit passes in WAEC/NECO (or equivalent), including English Language and Mathematics, at not more than two sittings. Admission is via JAMB UTME.

Higher National Diploma (HND)

▪ Programme: Mass Communication (Full-Time & Part-Time)

▪ Requirements:

▪ Five credit passes as required for the ND programme.

▪ ND in Mass Communication with a minimum of Lower Credit from a recognized, accredited institution.

▪ Proof of a one-year mandatory Industrial Attachment.

▪ Admission is conducted directly by the institution.

Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)

▪ Programmes:

▪ Broadcast Journalism

▪ Print Journalism

▪ Public Relations/Advertising

▪ Requirements:

▪ First Degree or Higher National Diploma from a recognized institution.

▪ Five credit passes in O'Level, including English Language and Mathematics, at not more than two sittings.

Proficiency Certificate

▪ Programmes: Photo Journalism, Communication & Writing Skills, Basic Photography, Sports Report and Presentation.

▪ Requirements: Five credit passes in O'Level, including English Language and Mathematics, at not more than two sittings.

Programme Duration

▪ National Diploma (ND): 4 semesters (2 academic sessions) for Full-Time; 6 semesters (3 academic sessions) for Part-Time.

▪ Higher National Diploma (HND): 4 semesters (2 academic sessions) for Full-Time; 6 semesters (3 academic sessions) for Part-Time.

▪ Postgraduate Diploma (PGD): 2 semesters (1 academic session) for Full-Time; 3 semesters for Part-Time.

NYSC and Deferment

▪ NYSC: Yes, NIJ graduates with HND degrees are mobilized for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) if they meet all the required criteria.

▪ Deferment: You can apply for deferment of admission within six weeks of the admission date, provided you have genuine reasons and supporting documents.

How to Apply

  1. Visit the NIJ website at www.nij.edu.ng.

  2. Click on the 'REGULAR PROGRAMMES' link under the 'Application' tab.

  3. Scroll down to find the link to apply and fill out the online form.

  4. Pay the required application fee.

  5. The date for the entrance exam (for ND Part-Time, HND, and PGD) will be communicated to you later.
