Students Shut Down Polytechnic Ibadan Over Renaming to Honor Late Olunloyo

On Tuesday, July 1st, 2025, students of The Polytechnic Ibadan protested the renaming of the institution after former Governor Victor Omololu Olunloyo.

Governor Seyi Makinde had announced the name change, citing Olunloyo's contributions to education, including his past role as the Polytechnic's first Rector.

In response, students shut down academic and administrative activities, locking campus gates and blocking major roads, including Sango Junction.

The protesters insisted they would continue demonstrating until the governor reversed the decision.

By midday, they marched to the Oyo State Government Secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan, forcing the gates to be shut as they continued their protest.
