2025 JAMB Policy Meeting Holds 8th July [All You Need to Know]

The 2025 JAMB Policy meeting, scheduled for July 8, 2025, at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre Abuja, will determine admission guidelines and standards for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Key Information from the 2025 JAMB Policy Meeting

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that the 2025 Policy Meeting will be held on July 8th, 2025, at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre Abuja. Attendance is strictly by invitation, but live events can be followed via JAMB’s social media platforms.

The meeting will be chaired by the Hon. Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, and will include critical stakeholders in the education sector such as:

▪️ Heads of regulatory agencies (National University Commission - NUC, National Board for Technical Education - NBTE, National Council for Colleges of Education - NCCE).

▪️ Heads of tertiary institutions in the country.

▪️ The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), among others.

The policy meeting sets the tone for each year’s admission exercise, formulates admission guidelines, presents application statistics, evaluates candidates’ performance, and sets the acceptable minimum admission standards for all tertiary institutions.

During the meeting, stakeholders will discuss critical issues from the just-concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), the sale of Direct Entry (DE) application documents, and set the tone for the 2025/2026 Admission exercise. The meeting will also evaluate the 2024 Admission exercise.

Furthermore, the Policy Meeting will decide the acceptable minimum admissible score to be applied in all admissions by all tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

Six Things to Expect After the JAMB Policy Meeting

  • The Official 2025 Cut-off marks for ALL Institutions & Courses will be released. This will help candidates make informed decisions concerning the Change Of Course/Institution.
  • JAMB will announce the deadline for schools to admit 2025 candidates.
  • The Top 10 Universities, Polytechnics, and COEs with the highest applications for 2025 will be revealed.
  • The meeting will also evaluate the 2024 admissions exercise, including the total number of students each school admitted in the 2024/2025 session.
  • Finally, the reasons why some candidates were not offered admission in 2024 will be disclosed.

PS: Details of the 2023 JAMB Policy Meeting wasn’t published online. When we contacted JAMB they said they’ll release it, but they didn’t. Perhaps due to some unforeseen circumstances.

Reasons Candidates Were Not Admitted

In 2021, over two million candidates applied for admission, but barely 600,000 were admitted. JAMB disclosed the main reasons why over one million candidates were not admitted:

▪️ Over-subscription of few Programmes: Most candidates chose few programmes, leading to high competition.

▪️ Wrong O’ Level subject combination (See Subject Combination for all courses).

▪️ Low (Post UTME) screening score

▪️ Wrong JAMB UTME Subject combination (See the JAMB Subject Combination for all Courses).

▪️ Didn’t accept admission Offer on JAMB CAPS (See how to accept admission on JAMB CAPS Portal).

▪️ Duplication of application (i.e., registering for both JAMB UTME and Direct Entry).

▪️ Absent from POST UTME Screening.

▪️ Late change of Institution & Mismatch of Catchment.

For Awaiting Result Candidates:

▪️ These candidates can’t be considered for admission on awaiting result status.

▪️ They must upload their O’ level results on the Board’s portal before the commencement of the admission exercise.

▪️ Their O’ level results form a crucial part of their registration requirements.

Eye-Opening Stories from JAMB Policy Meeting

"I made Mistake" - Result Manipulation:

▪️ Candidate's Action: A candidate initially uploads genuine O'level results to JAMB CAPS, then uploads a fake result with higher grades to the institution's portal. This fake result boosts the candidate's ranking at the institution, and is then substituted with the genuine one (with lower grades).

▪️ JAMB's Intervention: JAMB spot-checked and accused an institution (Unilorin 2019 experience) of manipulation at the registration point.

▪️ Policy: Results provided on CAPS are to be used for ranking and will be downloaded by the institutions. No candidate is required to do any other upload until admitted. Result download by institutions from CAPS has been made mandatory.

Skipping of Merit Candidates - University of Benin Case:

▪️ Claim: A candidate wrote to JAMB alleging that the University of Benin denied her admission to Doctor of Pharmacy, with the University claiming it was due to quota limitations.

▪️ Fact: JAMB's investigation revealed the candidate had all the requirements to be admitted on merit and ranked as one of the best 30 for the programme.

▪️ Resolution: JAMB adjusted the quota by two spaces to accommodate her because two other candidates who took her place had already accepted admission.

Under-the-Table Admissions

Case: Babcock University issued a ‘Provisional Undergraduate Admission’ to a candidate already admitted in FUTA (Federal University of Technology Akure).

Fact:

▪️ The candidate was already admitted and had completed the process in FUTA.

▪️ Babcock University, through a third-party, asked the candidate to request a new admission letter without going through FUTA. This is deemed IMPOSSIBLE by JAMB, implying a bypass of standard admission procedures.

Varying Minimum UTME Score

Request: Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) requested a 200 institutional minimum UTME score for all programmes. However, they requested 180 as the minimum score for candidates who went through pre-degree and those seeking admission to Adeyemi College of Education (Adeyemi COE).

JAMB Position:

▪️ 180 becomes the institutional minimum UTME score for all.

▪️ JAMB stated that pre-degree programme candidates are not supposed to be inferior.

▪️ Adeyemi COE holds the degree of OAU, implying it cannot have a different minimum score from the B.Ed of OAU.

JAMB Result Upgrade Scam Exposed

Case 1:

▪️ Claim: A JAMB candidate complained to the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) that he initially checked his result and scored 220, but upon rechecking, saw 183 and wanted the 220 restored.

▪️ Facts: He actually scored 183.

▪️ JAMB wrote to FCCPC to be part of the investigation.

▪️ FCCPC was to invite the candidate (Oladipupo) for participation in the investigation session.

▪️ The father rejected the invitation and opted to drop the case.

▪️ JAMB's Response: JAMB stated they would prosecute the father and the candidate.

JAMB's Response to Forgers and Fraudsters 🛡️

JAMB has reported the continued activities of fraudsters who forge the Registrar's signature and spread fictitious news, such as claims that the JAMB website crashed and all examinations were cancelled. In response, JAMB is taking the following actions:

▪️ Partnering with Security Operatives: Collaborating with security operatives and relevant agencies to combat cybercrimes.

▪️ Engaging Cybercrime Experts: Sponsoring and engaging experts in cybercrime to leverage their knowledge and skills.

▪️ Moving Services to Registration Portal: Shifting some services to the main registration portal to prevent the extortion of candidates.
